Muchas gracias and then some. I'm trying to curb my anger at those who only discovered the importance of "politics" in 2016, especially those who are white and middle-class and up. I fit into that demographic so I'm feeling partly responsible, even though (since I came of political age in the momentous year of 1968) I've always known better and have mostly acted like it. The League of Women Voters and others have long used the slogan "Democracy is not a spectator sport." I wish more people realized that just voting every two or four years is only a step above sitting on the sidelines. Fortunately many of us came out of our lairs after the 2016 election, and I daresay our numbers have grown since then. So now I'm going to keep calm and explain as patiently as I can that no, Project 2025 isn't going to be implemented on day one and the GOP most likely contains the seeds of its own destruction. On to the next!
At some point the people who voted for Trump will figure out what that really means and perhaps they’ll make different choices at for the next election. Everything that Trump promised to do will make the economy far worse. When prices keep going up, companies can’t hire workers, and when the safety net vanishes, people will begin to understand what a Trump presidency really means.
And while we’re at it, going after the Republicans in Senate and Congress will yield more in the future than always concentrating on trump’s latest outrage. Nobody cares about his outrageous conduct. And he can’t run again. So spend the next four years digging a grave for the GOP.
Yesterday I visited General Grant's home in Galena Illinois. My heart was heavy. Then I remembered, what General Grant considered his greatest loss, Cold Harbor. He lost 7000 men in less than an hour, charging directly at the traitors entrenched forces. Ten months later, the traitors surrendered at Appomatox Court House.
You used a phrase that I have frequently used in my life-don’t borrow trouble. That is a good reminder, and also take some deep breaths. His plans will not be easy to implement.
This very optimistic. I do not think the military will stand up to trump. I suspect trump will decapitate the military leadership and he will have the Sec of Defense and he learned he cap just appoint whoever he wants and just ignore Senate approval. Like Hitler, Trump has said he just “needs one violent day.” Note: the deaths of 50,000 in Viet Nam lead to wide spread protests that ended the war. The civil rights protest lead to major legislative action to reduce inequality. Think about this Russia has lost 700,000 troops in Ukraine with no significant protests to end the war. Why? Because Putin has effectively used fear against his people. trump needs one violent day to justify inducing fear and somehow Michael Flynn will help trump get that day.

You make sense, of course, of this dark cloud now descended on America. But woe to our democratic republic if we fail to yank racism by its roots out of America’s soil and soul.
I love listening to Gretchen Whitmer, another strong and capable woman holding office and getting stuff done. But oh my goodness, it was sure hard to see her speaking at the DNC.
I will go back and listen to Kamala Harris's concession speech. As hard as it was to hear that, it was inspirational. Kamala Harris taught us to work hard together, and to work joyfully, even though the work is hard.
I am focused on 2026, and on listening to and (hopefully) beginning to understand the folks who live in my very red rural community. I believe making connections will make a difference, and that with connections we can build a coalition. The hard work starts now.
David, I live in the fourth largest economy in the world. Yes, California is no longer ranked fifth. The top five now are the US, China, Germany, California, and Japan. Supporters of Trump love to trash us, but it's our federal tax dollars that bail out the red states, and our food that feeds them. We will be focused on the climate crisis and we will not be available to help people who think it is a hoax. I doubt if we will also have much help for a number of counties in California that switched from red to blue this election. I had to explain to some out of staters the other day that in the Bay Area, many gas stations have electric charging stations too, especially Shell, which is apparently doing this in a big way... Due to the climate crisis I don't believe our best days are ahead, but I do believe it will be survivable on the West Coast.
I was a Republican that voted for Obama in 2008 and changed my party affiliation to Democratic in 2016. I am embarrassed by what just happened. Democrats must get better at communicating PRONTO! I remember an interview Obama did in 2016.
At times in his interview with Lauer, Obama reflected upon what he might have done differently or what he would have told his younger self seven years ago. “I think the most important thing I would say to an earlier version of myself would be to communicate constantly and with confidence to the American people, because this place has a tendency to isolate you. You recognize that particularly in times of stress, the American people need to hear from their president in terms of what it is exactly that we’re trying to do. Things that I’ve done well during the campaign,” he concluded, “I have not always done well while I’ve been president.”
Republicans will lie or tell conspiracy theories or take credit for Democratic projects that they like. They communicate constantly and because they take up all the communication “air,” people believe them. Democrats must become better at public relations and communicating accomplishments, NOW!

Lucky for us, they've already started digging their own grave.
I feel better.

That goes well with Timothy Snyder's "Don't obey in advance."

Thank you David. These are the words we need to hear right now.
All aboard!!

This is how we win.
Peace.
