As a Canadian I greatly respect your insights and analysis of American politics, but I’m beginning to worry that intelligent and caring opinion writers are preaching to the choir. It is terrifying to watch so many Americans openly embrace Trump, who will surely tear down democracy if he wins this time. He will not be a useless President like last time. America was extremely fortunate that he didn’t actually accomplish much while in office - not counting attempting to carry out a political coup of course. The msm media is doing a terrible job in continuing to both sides their reporting. Shocking actually. I worry that there are not enough David Rothkopfs.
I share your concerns. (Not about "not enough David Rothkopfs." I think one is plenty.) But we are in a situation in which any rational voter familiar with basic facts should not be able to even contemplate voting for a criminal like Trump. But our national political culture in the US has made it so the facts don't matter for a large percentage of our electorate and that makes the unthinkable possible. All we can do is hope that enough folks who are on the fence are moved to vote for Biden that we do not have the disaster that you rightly anticipate.
