He didn't win the popular vote. A majority of voters voted for someone else. See my latest "News to Know" post.

David writes, “Trump even immediately called his workshops in China and immediately got them working on presidential merch—including a “victory” watch. Buy a piece of history, he urges on the ads where he is hawking the watches.”

When tariff-mania begins, will trump’s branded junk get a waiver?

I don't think President Muck intends to go through the Congress.

I am counting down to midterms, expecting a blue wave. And with a blue Congress, hoping for impeachment number 3.

Will we be able to even have midterms?

David, do you have a reference for the Eric Trump quote? I'd love to amplify it, but need to know where you got it. Thanks?

I wrote a post-election essay (on Medium) (11/7/2024) with the title "2024 Election — Where did the Democratic votes go, and why?" I will update it when the numbers are final, which incredibly, 4+ weeks after the election, are still at only 99% of the vote counted.

The key point I made then still stands, there was a 6M vote drop off for Harris from Biden's 2020 numbers, and the Dems need to dig into the data to understand why.

As of yesterday, the following holds true:

1- In three consecutive national elections, MAGA-Trump has never gained 50% of the voters that bothered to show up and vote. MAGA ideology has a ceiling.

2- Currently it is Trump 49.79%, Harris 48.31%, 3rd Party/other 1.89%.

3- Trump’s final margin over Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris will be ~ 1.4 percentage points. According to James M. Lindsay, writing for the Council of Foreign Relations, it is the fifth smallest since 1900, which covers 32 presidential races. Exit polls showed that Trump’s favorability rating was just 48% and that more voters chose someone other than Trump. And, as Lindsay points out, Trump fell 4 million votes short of President Joe Biden in 2020. As Lindsay noted, “Indeed, by historical standards Trump’s victory is unimpressive.”

4- Regarding the "Fair and square" portion, that remains to be seen. Many are calling for a recount in the swing states and a forensic audit of the vote. Much of the analysis of the vote counts are suspect, and this will be presented in my updated essay.

5- Trump won PA-MI-WI by ~ 230,000 votes. Harris gets 250,000 there, she is POTUS elect.

Unimpressive, bigly. But so were the numbers for the National Socialist German Workers' Party in 1932, and they went on to big things too, even if most of the people did not select them.

It can happen here, it is happening here.

I would like to believe that it’s true. It does make sense. Ready to fight for the mid term election.

Oh the toddler temper tantrums we are going to have to endure . . .and he will have big boy toys, but yes, they barely squeaked a win. Let’s watch them self-destruct!

Any Republican who expects a favor from Donald Trump without bending over for it is clearly not competent to be in politics. Donald is for Donald only and to hell with other people and the country.

I think what you said will be true. An entire House up for re-election and 33% of the senators. It’s been too long for me to remember, but someone since the election said or wrote about the inertia of something as big as the federal government and as much as that has to do with voters, the money government brings to industries within the various states also weighs heavily in the reckoning of the Senate and the House. Sure, they’ll be able to cut some programs back or eliminate them but it will be EXTREMELY difficult to cut the portions that have the most dollars allotted: the so-called “entitlement” programs (that term burns me because we paid into them during our working years so it is to me, an “earned” benefit), defense (yeah, right, for many of the factors listed earlier). Smaller, less well defended segments like the CPB (PBS and NPR) will become the main focus, although there will, I’m sure, be some cuts in defense dollars because of continuing failed audits, maybe SNAP and other programs of aid for the needy. I don’t see education being cut much because of the closely divided House and Senate. The $2T will be toast, reduced to, ahem, mere billions. Big caveat though is the effect of tariffs, if levied, especially if the farming economy needs bailed out like it did during his first term.

I think it was Robert Hubbell who likened the federal government to a large ship. It doesn’t move or turn quickly

Thank you for this David. His first administration was a cluster f*ck. Total joke. He made a speech at the national prayer breakfast that was a skit on Saturday Night Live. Alec Baldwin and Stormy Daniels and Robert DeNiro who was kicked off Twitter is comedy gold. All we did was laugh. And he did not do jack shit except the tax cut. They did nothing but shut the government down over his phony wall. His press conferences every day with whatever stooge from Dancing With The Stars was in place. OMG 😂. And Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer on SNL. And Dave Chappell on SNL. Every week we laughed. I see that Kelly Anne Conway is still making alternative facts and fake news. Covid will go away by Easter Prince Jared said. Then there was Russian Barbie Ivanka with her blonde hair and her big Daddy Trump who she “worked” for. They money laundered for four years out of that DC hotel. Then Trump went on to kill a million people and crash the Obama economy that he rode just like he will take credit for everything Joe did. Joe’s best move in my view is pardoning his son. What the GOP has dragged the nation through with that Marjorie Taylor Green that evil witch from my home state showing his privates on the floor of the House and that deadbeat grifter thief the pig farmer James Comer approving it is so far beyond the pale that I fell to the floor and covered my eyes. Are you kidding me right now with fat king Donald. Remember Macron and Trudeau laughing at him at the G7. He thinks he is Putin or Netanyahu. He is a national nightmare and joke. David your essay was inspired. Thanks for giving us this platform to vent. Happy holidays however you all celebrate. Just laugh that is the best medicine. I could riff on the Trumps all night. Go to YouTube and watch that old SNL footage.
