This is what happens when you allow a real estate company president to perform something as complicated as brain surgery.

My fear is that Trump really wants to isolate the U.S. with himself as “President for Life” so that all his future needs (including his long list of planned revenge on the many people he feels have been “mean” to him) can be handled within the U.S. without any “nasty” consequences from abroad. He is building his castle of control.

Or do they understand -- and want to bring the society crashing down, so the greedy and stupid rule? We're Americans -- we know what to do about mad kings!

They are not stupid. They do understand all that. They intend to destroy the economy so they can build another where they are in control. This is not a conspiracy response. It’s all in Project 2025. And they have said that publicly.

Kudos, Mr. Rothkopf, you have analyzed a very complex unfolding situation and gave it bullet points and clarity. Along with context and feeling. I feel the same palpable disgust for these people. They’re stupid, yeah, but mostly malevolent as hell. You always just blow me away with your articles. You are masterful and eloquent.

All good points. But the Felon doesn’t read or care. Think of the Felon in this manner. He is primal, lazy, and ignorant. There are very few things that interest him. But, he looks at everything in one angle. Can I get free money out of this. That’s it! Quite simple. Look at everything coming up in that angle and you will see his next move. He is quite insane. He is very unhealthy, unstable, and unhappy. That is why he does so many hateful things. He really hates himself. And, he hates all of us. Especially, anyone that supports him! Crazy, isn’t it?

Oh, David, does he have no advisors who know anything? I know he picked ignorant nominees for Commerce, Education, Labor, and State, but apparently no one in his administration knows anything?

Great A to Z analysis. What's frightening is watching the Republican senators and congressmen just standby and watch. There's ZERO effort to control Trump. There will be a backlash but won't happen until there's untold damage to the country. Even if the Democrats get back into power with a trifecta four years from now, there will be so much damage to clean up we'll never recover as a country.

My only hope is that enough of the people who voted for Trump and Republicans in general will revolt after Social Security tanks, Medicaid funding is withdrawn, FEMA is eliminated, and a huge recession eliminates their jobs. There's always the strong possibility of stagflation, a recession (job losses) and inflation (ever higher prices)

What's so sad for our country is we've seen this all before and we are lousy students of history!

Unfortunately, we got exactly the government we voted for. Trump said he would take a wrecking ball to Washington and he's keeping his word.

WE did not vote for this. Other, less informed (stupid?), greedy, power hungry, uncaring people voted for this.

Kathy, I voted for our wonderful Madame Vice President, who told us what she was going to do to continue the strong economy of the Biden years, and who also told us exactly what dreadful things T**** would do to us if he were elected. And some folks couldn't or wouldn't vote for the Black lady, and here we are. And I am so angry.

A big reason she lost is the widespread racism and misogyny in this country. People would rather have mediocre white men run everything.

I did not vote for Trump either, though a large number of American citizens did. Our fellow Americans, well informed or not, made that choice.

Might I suggest a second "z"?

They mix up the desire of the "nice" people who voted for this regime to lower egg prices with lowering share prices.

"Oh... you meant eggs! Oeps.... sorry... I understood shares!"

The idea that they intend to wreck the economy and “buy cheap” is an idea that is completely undermined by the content of Mr. Rothkopf’s entire piece based on basic market economic principles. Buy cheap, for what? A completely devastated domestic consumer market to make a profit on is not a winning formula. Driving competition away for a fortress USA captured market is the best they can hope for. They won’t be any more filthy rich than they already were relatively speaking, but they sure can relish the boot they’ll have on American serfs’ necks. That’s the only thing they can hope to achieve with this “plan” if that’s what you want to call it.

The bottom line here is that Trump is following orders from his owner, Putin, to destroy this country from within, to shred our alliances and to damage democracy around the world.

Who else benefits from tanking our economy and the world's other than Putin? Note that the one country not on the tariff list is Russia.

There's another byproduct of the tariffs that Trump has imposed: he is essentially manipulating the stock market to enable him to buy in "bigly" just before he announces that there will be some mitigation in the severity of the tariffs.

What's shocking, however, is that the Republican Party has capitulated to this reprehensible quisling. Arrogance and ignorance, clothed in stupidity, have come home to roost.

Apparently, the republicans are astonishingly ignorant. A lot of them went to good schools, but none seemed to learn anything. I guess that means they accurately represent the magas.

Homi Hormasji's avatar

We’d have to question how good those schools were if all they learnt was how to be selfish and greedy without so much as an ounce of morality or self-doubt.
