Mr. Rothkopf, your analysis and journalism are magnificent. You have described these events and their meaning just exactly accurately.

I appreciate the heads-up, the red flags...dire warnings. all true and not to be minimized or doubted. My tact is to seek out, follow and support, best I can, the knowledgeable and committed pro-democracy advocates that we know are here. I want to be informed of the facts solely by these people and organizations. I do not take in information from Maga sources with the exception of knowing what concrete actions are and have been taken. Positive energies intended for our way forward.

Yes, because I was sure Jan 6 was an illegal offense ripe for prosecution, but I was wrong. And now I know the rule of law most likely will never apply to him.

Agree completely, sadly.

Wise and articulate words. But we the people need specific guidance and direction on what we can do to stop the speeding political fright train that is about to destroy our constitutional form of government.

…seriously ?! …we haven’t seen nothing yet, not one dumb motherfucker in this country can even imagine what’s coming, country that allows dictator to become dictator after he said he will be dictator DESERVES DICTATOR, political ignorance, consumerism and lack of proper education made this country a politically impaired nation

…”There are no rules in dictatorship. Officials don’t feel bound by rules – rules of decency, justice, rules of any kind – it’s all about what they can get away with. People working for dictators often live off graft, corruption and intimidation – their power over you is more than bad service in a restaurant. And beware, in a dictatorship, criminal organizations can always outbid you.”

Just sitting by and letting them steal our country right from under us. NOBODY in power willing to stand up for freedom……And so we lose it.

Yes, but isn’t this illegal. They should be held accountable for these crimes. They are terrorists.

Well said. Now to pile on; the effects of climate change, (not allowed to be said), ecosystem/biosphere destruction, plastics and forever chemicals, rainforest collapse, topsoil erosion, and earth carrying capacity overshoot, we are in far graver peril as a species than the majority ate remotely aware. This administration will set us back to the Terminal Species.

You write that the media is too busy to cover the important events. No, they work for Trump. The entire mass media is now an arm of the fascist regime of Trump.

I think the economy crashing will wake some people up. I fear that is the only thing that will work right now. I agree we need to keep speaking up but it's falling on deaf ears and there is no opposition leader. That's a big problem. When the US govt becomes unstable, financial markets will surely react. There won't be anywhere to hide. Also of course a big natural disaster after all the FEMA employees and USFS firefighters are gone might also do it.

I think that we all cannot give up and we must all stand up and support our American colleagues . It is SO difficult . I live near and have flown in and out of Washington National Airport. There are actually three Washington area airports, the other two are Washington. Dulles and Baltimore Washington International Airport. Washington National is smaller, busy with a great deal of traffic with smaller planes and helicopters of Government people in and out. What a tragedy for so many.

I did read a bit about some changes with Trump as president and his awful DEI comment. His government had very recently insisted on changes in positions on related air governance government boards and leadership.

Trump’s comment about DEI was both racist and sexist, completely out of place for the region and the Federal government teams. Simply just wrong.

I actually started thinking, “Where do I live?” “What country is this?” What I do realize is though I might not agree with the politics, ideas or comments of any American people, Trump is truly an angry, dangerous , cruel leader. His comments were not simply wrong, he was evil.

Thank you for this. We are watching a coup appear in real time. We have to keep our eyes open and resist where we can.
