Once again, Gen Xers are left out of the equation. Also, more and more evidence of election rigging and that Kamala actually *did* win. But aside from those comments, this essay is right on.
Just got the chance to catch up, read this column. It was great, realistically talking about Clinton and Obama (and Biden), explaining that a similar campaign but not the same ideas may work better in the heartland, and, of course, the incredible blowback Mamdani will receive from establishment Democrats and Never-Trumpers.
Yeah, I feel bad about being a boomer, but I wasn’t handed anything and I didn’t squander anything. I have love and real values. I’ll help the young people all I can.
I agree with you all the way. The wealthy establishment on both sides doesn’t care about people or the country, only themselves. It’s time for them to go.
The Democratic Party is in shambles and needs a shake up. Having someone who is young, focused on what people really need, and will push back is positive. A focus on bread and butter issues and giving everyone a decent shot is what’s needed. The top 1% has so much wealth it’s protecting that it’s obscene. Let’s take care of most people and actually care about each other. For those who voted to blow up the government, they got their wish. They can live with a government that can no longer function or provide basic services.
Your comparison to the younger generation (Boomers) who inherited so much and we pissed it away is unfortunately accurate. As a Boomer I hope the next generation is fed up and wants better and does a better job.
Spot on. Nice to have candidates like Mamdani who ARE running on what cannot be backpedaled and what leapfrogs idealistic/moral arguments directly to implementation and efficacy of process whose results will only provoke ridiculous disingenuous measures of resistance . Not that they won’t be taken, but while there is still room for tenacity in the face of all they have left (power of wealth) let’s go. There will be brute opposition. Soon to be wielded brute force. They’re already well along with that regimented practice. It may be too late. Defeat it within 2 years, or hold on and buckle down for 20.
Bravo David! As a 75 y/o (aka Boomer) lifelong Dem, I think you have, as usual, hit the nail on the head perfectly and am thrilled and inspired by this young man's campaign. Why is listening and responding to the needs of voters so shockingly original these days? Have maintained that we are stuck in this Trump hell in no small part because of the chronic, systemic failings of the Democratic party - who have been trying and largely failing to play the same game as the more ruthless GOP, ( the party largely unencumbered by even a pretense of caring for their voters) Emotion sells better than Lectures, as we have grim daily reminders...
Thank you for this awesomely cogent article (I have sent it to friends - maybe needs to go to Shumer and Jeffries too?)
Very interesting article David. Time for us baby boomers to move aside. I especially liked the quotes from Harry Truman regarding socialism and your highlighting of what Netanyahu is doing in Gaza.

Terrific article.
Thank you, and very well said.
but I am sad to see Gen X relegated to the shadows, again.
I had to scroll so far down to find any mention of us lol
No- it is just too extreme
Truth! Female, boomer, Democrat here. Your analysis is on point. ❤️✌🏻

Actually men of all ages still have a hard time accepting a woman in authority and power. Misogyny in this country is still a massive problem.
First inspiring, optimistic piece from you in so long I hardly recognized you! xo
