Kamala is Not Just Going to Win, She's Going to Win Big, Real Big
After All Trump's Racism and Misogyny, It's Time for Him to Meet Karmala Harris
The cascade of events triggered by Joe Biden’s courageous and wise decision to withdraw from the race and his equally momentous decision to throw his full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris have been almost too much to take in.
Democrats have mobilized behind Harris’ candidacy in a way that few could have imagined. (Ok, I imagined it. But I have been wrong so often in the past that I am not going to sit here and say “I told you so.” That would be petty. And beneath me. You deserve better.)
As this is being written on the Tuesday after the Sunday, Harris has already garnered enough votes to secure the Democratic nomination to be president. Every single one of her potential serious rivals has endorsed her. Every party chairman endorsed her. Big majorities of Democrats in the Senate and House have endorsed her. The AFL-CIO, AFT, SEIU and other big unions have endorsed her. Within the first 24 hours of Biden’s endorsement of Harris, her campaign raised $81 million in small money donations via Act Blue and more than $150 million in big money contributions. (Sorry, Elmo, that’s way more than the $45 million a month that Musk promised to Trump.) Almost two thirds of those small money donations were, importantly, first time donors.
Voters of color are mobilized as they have not been since the campaign of Barack Obama. Tens of thousands of Black women and men have joined calls to express solidarity and plan their support for Harris. They have raised millions. Tens of thousands upon tens of thousands have volunteered to work on the campaign. And Kamala Harris memes have taken over the Internet—in a good way.
Speaking of coconuts, the MAGA mob must be feeling they just got conked in the head by a torrent of the one-seeded drupes. (Coconuts are a fruit. That is they type of fruit they are. Like mangoes. Or cherries. But I digress much like the GOP’s decrepit aging losing-his-marbles oldest presidential candidate in history, seeming case study in neurosyphillis Donald J. Trump must be feeling at the moment.
